Legislators in New Jersey approved bipartisan legislation that will require residents to be screened before they may obtain healthcare licensure.
Senator Robert Singer sponsored the bill. In a statement, he noted the passing of this legislation is: “A proactive step toward ensuring that those entrusted with the health and well-being of our communities are qualified and trustworthy. By extending background check requirements to include more health care professions, we are not only protecting patients but also enhancing the overall integrity of New Jersey's health care system."
The bill is scheduled to go into effect on “the first day of the seventh month next following the date of enactment.” As of that date, the law will apply to all applications for initial licensure or licensure renewal received by the State Boards of Applied Behavior Analyst Examiners, Creative Arts and Activities Therapies, and Dietetics and Nutrition.
These reports are important for every employer, but especially crucial for positions that will provide healthcare or work with vulnerable populations such as children or elderly individuals. It is critical for organizations who offer these services to take all reasonable steps to ensure the people they bring on are considered to be qualified, eligible and people who can be deemed safe to take on these roles.
